I grew up with my parents and eight sisters on a small dairy farm in Wisconsin. I was a shy girl, but our household was certainly not quiet! Chaos was part of the daily routine. I loved being a part of a big family and living out in the country. (Though I probably complained about the chores.)
Once out of college, with a degree in Nutrition and Dietetics, career opportunities eventually took me to Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Atlanta, Georgia before my husband and I finally settled in the suburbs of Washington, DC. Life in Northern Virginia with our three sons is still a bit chaotic and loud, but always fun. When I'm not reading or writing, I like to cook, take photos, garden, and be outdoors. (Except during the hot, humid Virginia summers.) As much as I enjoy living in Virginia, I'll always hold a special place in my heart for Wisconsin, especially the summers.
I'm a member of SCBWI and have taken courses through the Institute of Children's Literature. I'm also active in several critique groups.
I cohost #PBPitch, a Twitter party for picture book writers. Find out more at www.pbpitch.com.
